As transport costs rise around the world, a group of Papua New Guineans are finding a way to curb costs by returning to more traditional methods.

Sanakoli John and his brother Justin made history a few years ago when they circumnavigated New Guinea island in a traditional handmade sailing canoe, using neither fuel nor navigational equipment, guided by little more than the wind and the waves.

As Jan Villalon reports, they’ve started a school in the hopes of passing along their skills to the next generation.
