This panel brings together stakeholders from Hawaii and Puerto Rico to discuss efforts to create a cleaner and more resilient energy system. Both regions face considerable threats from natural hazards, with Puerto Rico still recovering from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Maria. The discussion will bring together stakeholders to share how both islands are preparing their electricity systems for the future.

Christopher Johnson leads Blue Planet Energy as the Chief Operating Officer. He keeps the company on track to accomplish its mission to end the use of carbon-based fuels by making energy awareness delightful and clean energy accessible. He brings a deep background in science, hands on experience in renewable energy, and extensive leadership in executive roles of startups. Johnson has led software teams, created open source platforms, spoken at dozens of conferences and led social impact businesses. He has lived on 5 continents, speaks Spanish, and currently lives in San Francisco with his family. In his spare time, he likes to build LED projects and is passionate about soccer, cycling, and building community and healthy soil.

Gregg Murphy first found his passion for renewable energy in 1994 when he built an off-grid solar powered home. Gregg's home was featured in The Solar Home Tour. From that point he founded Solar Northwest, where he taught college extension courses on renewable energy and helped many people cut the cord to carbon-based fuel utility power.

Murphy most recently was the Director of Sales and a Partner at Revolusun in Honolulu. He developed the RevoluSun Way selling process and authored the Solar Masters training course. Under Murphy's leadership Revolusun won numerous awards, locally and nationally. He was pivotal in growing Revolusun as a market leader, as well as developing and managing franchisee’s whom purchased a RevoluSun Franchise.

Latin America And Caribbean Regional Sales Manager Blue Planet Energy

A life-long resident of Puerto Rico, Gabriel Perez manages sales for Blue Planet Energy in the Latin American and Caribbean markets. Perez has worked professionally in the solar and storage industries for more than a decade. He was a member of the team that built Puerto Rico’s first 20 MW solar-plus-storage power plant. Perez has closed more than US$ 30M in solar power purchase agreement contracts. In his former sales position with Unirac, he drove a 40% increase in sales revenue within the territories he managed.

Justin Locke is responsible for strategic oversight and leadership for Carbon War Room's Islands Energy Program, which guides island governments and utilities to define and achieve their energy visions. The program aims to accelerate the transition of island economies from a heavy dependence on fossil fuels to a diverse platform of renewables and energy efficiency while establishing a blueprint for other isolated economies. Justin previously held the position of disaster risk management specialist at the World Bank, where he was instrumental in accessing climate financing for Eastern Caribbean countries where he led national planning processes designed to develop and deploy tailored, broad-based national adaptation and mitigation strategies for achieving cross-sectoral climate resilience.
